Artist Statement
My work delves into the depths of regret and melancholy, exploring how these unspoken emotions evolve under the weight and passage of time.
Through using the rich, reflective tones of oil paint and the textural possibilities of mixed media, I aim to express the complex feelings tied to remorse, whether for choices made, paths not taken, or lives unlived.
Through portraiture in particular, I examine the ways in which we as humans grapple with unresolved events and trauma, particularly those left without definitive endings. The human face becomes a canvas for these emotions, the stature of the figure introspective to the complex responses. While the luminous qualities of oil paint serves as a fitting medium to capture the somber beauty of regret. My practice is an ongoing exploration of how we reconcile the irreconcilable and the stories etched into our inner landscapes.
